VOLUNTEER

VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION

THURSDAY JUNE 20th, 2024

We need volunteers in a varies of areas both prior, during and following the event day, including:

 

  • Registration

  • Parking

  • Start/Finish Line Refreshments

  • Kids Events

  • Site Set-Up

  • Course Marshalling

  • Aid Stations (on course)

  • First Aid

  • Finish Crew

​

All volunteers will receive volunteer orientation, a reusable RTM cup, food and beverage vouchers for the day of the event, and an invitation to the volunteer wrap-up dinner.

​

Please sign up for a position(s) and you will be contacted by your team lead(s) closer to the event.

​

There will be a volunteer orientation night on the Thursday, night prior to Race Day at 6:00 pm at the Kimberley Nordic Centre. Pizza and refreshments will be served.

Volunteer Positions

Aid Stations

  • Cheer on participants

  • Provide water & snacks

  • Record bib numbers

  • Provide initial aid assistance

  • Set up & takedown of aid station

  • Maintain toilet supplies (Station 2 &3) 

Set up/Take Down

  • Set up of tents, fencing, banners

  • Site plan

  • Take down of site after event

  • Area preparation & clean-up

Course

Marshalling/ Sweep

  • Check course in advance

  • Check course for injured or slow

  • Pick up signs & timing controls

  • Rock slopes - safety and check off

Awards

  • Layout awards/prize table

  • Gather awards list from finisher

  • Hand awards to presenter

  • Set up podiums

Parking

  • Greet participants

  • Direct to parking areas & spots

  • Close lots as necessary

  • Manage bus stops - KAR & Platzl

Kids Pack

  • Check in kids

  • Run races for kids

  • Operate orienteering course

  • Kids site set-up - final

  • Kids safety

  • Activities

Silent Auction

  • Prepare bid sheets

  • Group auction items

  • Set-up

  • Collect funds

  • Prep winners list for MC

Recycling &

Wash Station

  • Ensure recyclables are sorted properly

  • Wash reusable cups

  • Be happy

Finish Line

  • Direct finishers to timing area

  • Keep out spectators

  • Keep flow going

  • Ensure bikers dismount

Finish Trek

  • Record time of finishers

  • Write time on certificate

  • Present certificate to finisher

  • Track to see who is still on course

Registration &

Waivers

  • Waivers - to be signed & witnessed

  • Handout: race kits and timing sticks

  • Merchandize table - sales and pick up

Refreshments

  • Food and drink prep and service

  • Ensure availability of food & drink
